I felt that SPX went really well this year. Granted, my book was still at the printer (my fault, not theirs), so I didn't have that to sell as I'd hoped. But I managed to sell nearly all the old books I'd brought with me, and met quite a few people who were familiar with the strip through one publication or another, which is always cool. The "Comics & Politics" panel I was on drew a larger crowd than I'd anticipated, and people asked good questions. It's great to see political cartoons finally getting some attention from the indie crowd.
For me the highlight, in addition to hanging out with my cartooning buds, was meeting
Steve Brodner, whose wild caricatures and illustrations you have most certainly seen in
Rolling Stone and elsewhere. Knowing that he drew a caricature of fellow cartoonist
Mikhaela Reid, I asked him if he'd mind doing a quick sketch of me in my copy of
Freedom Fries, which he most obligingly did:

I will treasure it always. (Hmm... does my hair really explode out of my head like that?)
